#16 Days of Activism

Sister Diaspora for Liberation would like to thank all the fierce womyn and allies who participated in this year’s #16DaysofActivism. This year’s theme was: “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe For All.” Over the course of the 16 days, we highlighted spaces of education that are deemed safe, but have been and continue to be sources of oppression, violence, and racism against womyn of color. The campaign began on November 25th with the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and ended on December 10th, International Human Rights Day. Throughout, we highlighted stories of girls and womyn who have experienced violence at all levels, including educational, physical, and mental in educational spaces. From the fight for ethnic studies and liberation from colonial, white supremacist education systems, to the school-to-prison pipeline and its disproportional effect on Black girls, as well as, the epidemic of sexual violence, SDL stays committed with all our sisters to stop the criminalization of our bodies, and in the struggle to be safe in learning institutions. Now more than ever, we must organize to continue to dismantle unsafe spaces and build with our fellow sisters and allies.
